We Were Here By Matt De La Pena
After a judge sentences Miguel to spend a year in a group home and write in a journal, he makes plans to escape the youth detention center and go to Mexico, where he can put his past behind him.

Miguel is sent to group home after a deadly accident. From there, he breaks loose with two other delinquents in hopes to find Mexico. On their journey the boys suffer from many major losses, like no money,, no food, and even the suicide of the leader of the group. In the end Miguel learns what true friendship means.
