Flash Burnout by L. K. Madigan

Blake takes a photo of someone he thinks is a street person. However, the woman turns out to be his friend Marissa's drug-addicted mother. Wanting to help Marissa, Blake finds himself emotionally torn between her and his jealous girlfriend Shannon. Madigan effectively blends Blake's smart-alecky voice with serious subject matter in this well-paced story.

Flash Burnout was about a boy named Blake who is dating a girl named Shannon but was best friends with Marissa. When Blake takes a picture of a girl passed out on the street and shows the picture to Marissa everything gets turned upside down. The girl in the photo is her mom and Marissa leaves to go find her. When Marissa's mom goes to rehab she thinks everything gets better. Until she runs away again and Marissa goes looking for her. Blake goes out and finds Marissa and brngs her back home. But during these times his girlfriend is secretly worrying about him, although they are "just friends". When Blake and Marissa act out of depression Blake not only loses Shannon but Marissa as well.
